— Существуют правила, по которым делается хороший сценарий?

— Я вам так скажу. Я писатель. Я не могу не писать. Я пишу каждый день, даже если мне не надо ничего никому сдавать. Но если бы меня попросили провести мастер-класс, я бы сказал студентам следующее: «Во-первых, пишите без прилагательных. Во-вторых, без наречий. И в-третьих, сейчас я привяжу вашу левую руку к спине». Это очень тяжелое ремесло. Нужно все время бить себя по рукам. Даже в случае матерщины, хотя — казалось бы. Будьте избирательны. Получится ­лучше.

The Internet doesn’t work on a daily schedule. But even more importantly, it abhors the absence of voice. There’s a reason why opinion writing tends to dominate the most-read lists on our “news” sites. Indeed, what we’ve seen is that Internet communities tend to form around voices — informed, passionate, authoritative voices in particular. (No one wants to read a bored blogger, I always say.)

The trick to novel writing is maintaining faith in yourself as a writer and of the importance of what you are doing. You have a lifetime of conditioning to fight, which will keep telling you that you are wasting your time putting hundreds of hours into something you may never get paid for.

Another voice will snidely remind you of all the novels uncompleted, and all the completed novels unpublished, and all the published novels unsuccessful. Another will tell you that the very stuff of your being is unworthy, your soul too thin and your brain too thick.

These voices are not yours — they’re the echoes of the status quo, ground in by endless repetition. You can fight them with a good argument or you can get a partial lobotomy.

По правде, я обнаружил, что любое прерывание повседневными делами не слишком вредит рабочему процессу, а иногда может и помочь. В конце концов, дело в той песчинке, которая попадает в устричную раковину и там превращается в жемчужину, а не в семинарах по производству жемчуга с другими устрицами.
